Temperatures to drop in Egypt as of Monday

Do not forget to layer up if you are going out this week, as the hot weather that prevailed over the past two week is predicted to break as of Monday, according to the Egyptian Metrological Authority (EMA).

The warm spell is forecast to continue today with highs of 33 degrees Celsius in Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt and 34, 36, 37 degrees in South Sinai, northern and southern Upper Egypt respectively, the EMA said Saturday.

In its weekly bulletin, the EMA raised the alarm over deteriorating horizontal visibility that is expected due to sporadic strong winds and airborne dust and sand in different areas nationwide.

This includes Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, according to the EMA statement.

It also urged against direct exposure to sunlight during daylight hours.

Starting Monday through the weekend, temperatures are expected to drop by almost nine degrees, with strong winds to blow in parts of South Sinai and northern Upper Egypt intermittently.

Morning fogs are predicted on roads leading to Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, the Suez Canal cities, Sinai and Upper Egypt, said the EMA.

Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt will see highs of 24-25 degrees Monday through Friday and lows of 12 degrees Celsius.
