Egypt sends 240 tons of aid to Somalia amid years-long drought

Egypt has sent 240 tons of food, and medical and relief aid via sea to Mogadishu, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The shipment came within the framework of the special Egyptian-Somali relations and the Egyptian political leadership’s keenness to support the Somali government and people in the face of the drought that Somalia has suffered from for years, the statement said.

The aid was sent by the Egyptian government with contributions from Al-Azhar, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the Egyptian Red Crescent in coordination with the Foreign Ministry.

The Somali Ministry of Health expressed gratitude to Egypt, affirming the brotherly relations between the two countries and the important role of the Egyptian aid in facing drought.

The ministry also affirmed keenness to enhance cooperation with Egypt in the field of health and in training medical teams.
