Sisi reiterates call to disseminate correct teachings of Islam

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reiterated his call for religious scholars to disseminate the correct teachings of Islam, rectify misconceptions, and introduce the quintessence of Islamic teachings.

During a speech commemorating Laylat El-Qadr (The Night of Power) of the holy month of Ramadan, El-Sisi said the essence of Islam bears illustrations of mercy, tolerance, cooperation, hard work, construction, and reasoning of the right understanding of God's holy text and His divine wisdom.

"Conscious and enlightened religious discourse is a key element to counter destructive extremist ideology," El-Sisi stressed, urging more efforts towards disseminating sound understanding and raising awareness of the religion and homeland’s affairs.

The Egyptian president expressed his appreciation of the scholars of Egypt's Al-Azhar, the Sunni Muslim world’s top religious institution, and the Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf), which is responsible for administering mosques nationwide.

"I look forward to seeing a promising generation of young scholars and intellectual imams who would contribute to addressing our current issues within the framework of understanding the reality, developments, and challenges of our time while adhering to the fundamentals of Islamic Sharia law," the president added.

The celebration was attended by a host of Islamic figures and officials.

During the event, President El-Sisi honored the winners of the 28th international competition in memorizing the Holy Quran.
