Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting to follow up on the status of the state strategy on renewable and sustainable energy as well as the position of electricity feed for national developmental projects, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker, Petroleum and Mineral Wealth Minister Tarek al-Mulla, Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el-Saeed and Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet.
The latest developments of the production of electricity from new and renewable sources in co-operation with private sector companies and in partnership with foreign expertise were considered during the meeting, Spokesman Radi said.
Consideration of this matter came in the context of the country’s national strategy on renewable and sustainable energy which aims to raise to 42 per cent the contribution of such sources to the nation’s electric energy mix by the year 2035, the spokesman said. The projected increase, he added, would reflect optimized utilization of Egypt’s renewable energy resources and potentials.
Regarding the utilization of wind energy, the meeting reviewed the ongoing efforts to boost the generating capacity through reliance on ultra-high turbines of known high output, the spokesman said, adding that such an approach aims to maximize the utilization of wind energy in areas that enjoy with high wind speed nationwide.
Also reviewed during the meeting were the developments of co-operation with the international expertise, including through co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the implementation of the national strategy for generating green hydrogen by means of renewable energy.
In light of these reviews, President Sisi gave directives for enhancing and maximizing the value of the national plans for increasing the productivity and maximizing of renewable energy sources in order to its value, to diversify energy flows to developmental activities, Spokesman Radi said.
The presidential directive called for adding green hydrogen as a component of the integrated energy system with a view to keeping pace with global advances in dealing with climate change and trend to transform to green economy, Spokesman Radi said.
