The contract comprises a rail system of three lines with a network of 2,000 km nationwide.
President Sisi said that the new high-speed rail transportation system consolidates fruitful co-operation between Egypt and Germany in the field of infrastructure.
Meeting with President and CEO of Siemens AG Roland Busch, Sisi hailed the course of co-operation between Egypt and Siemens, as well as the German experience in the field of industry, due to its quality, accuracy and discipline.
The new electric train network will represent a great push to the transportation system in Egypt, opening a new era for railways in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East, the president said.
It will help stimulate economic growth in Egypt and transform it into a highly developed regional hub for modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation, he added.
In turn, President and CEO of Siemens AG Roland Busch hailed fruitful cooperation with Egypt in the development projects that made an honourable history for the company in the region and the world.
The high-speed electric train project in Egypt is the largest in Siemens’s history since its establishment 175 years ago, he added.
