Local Development Min., Cairo Gov. review preparations for COP27

Within the framework of Egypt’s preparations to host the 27th Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh city next November, Minister of Local Development Hesham Amna held Sunday a meeting with Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal in the presence of Deputy Governor of Alexandria Jacqueline Azer, Head of Cairo’s Transport Authority, Head of Alexandria’s Transport Authority; Assistant to Minister of Local Development for Planning Eng. Mohammed Abu Gaaour; Advisor to Minister of Military Production, Head of Military Factory 200, representatives of MCV Company, and several executive officials of local development and transport ministries.  
 

The meeting tackled the ongoing preparations for hosting COP27. As for the transport of the delegations participating in the conference, the minister said that the ministry would provide through Cairo’s Transport Authority and Alexandria’s Transport Authority 210 natural-gas buses and 110 electric buses in cooperation with the Ministry of Military Production and the Ministry of Transport.

 

Moreover, the minister asserted that the state, along with its ministries and relevant authorities, attaches great importance to that significant international event, adding that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli are continuously following the ongoing preparations. 

 

Amna also stressed the state’s interest in climate change and environment protection as well as organizing that event in a way that reflects efforts exerted by Egypt regarding that issue.

 

During the meeting, Amna and the officials attending reviewed efforts made by the Ministry of Transport to complete the electricity and gas bus charging system in Sharm el-Sheikh through the construction of charging stations.

 

For his part, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal reviewed all the measures taken by the Transport Authority during the past period to improve the provided services by adding eco-friendly buses to its fleet.

 

Furthermore, Abdel Aal asserted that the governorate and affiliated authorities would provide all necessary facilities concerning issuing licenses for the newly manufactured buses to install visual identity and send it to Sharm El-Sheikh city to transfer participated delegations.

 

At the end of the meeting, Amna stressed the necessity to adhere to the timeline and the tasks of all parties participating in that event, urging to quickly issue licenses for the new buses through coordination between the ministry, Cairo Governorate, Alexandria Governorate, and Military Production Ministry.
