Egypt has received on Saturday an additional 1.5 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine from the United States, announced the US embassy in Cairo in a statement on Twitter.
“We welcome the arrival of an additional 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Cairo today! With today’s delivery, the United States has now provided over 16 million doses of Coronavirus vaccines to Egypt” US Chargé d’Affaires, Nicole Shampaine said.
Egypt also received a shipment of 347,460 doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, said the Egyptian Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar in a statement on Thursday. The shipment, which arrived at the Cairo International Airport, was delivered via the COVAX Facility.
The Ministry’s Spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar added that Egypt would receive 6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on January 5.
The country is currently struggling with the fourth wave of the pandemic, reporting so far a total of 386,358 cases and 21,768 deaths, according to the latest official count on Saturday, since the pandemic started in Egypt in March last year.
