Egypt’s president proposes establishing union for Arab youth

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi suggested discussing the establishment of a union for Arab youth to maximise regular interaction among Arab youth as he received the Arab ministers of youth and sports.

The president made the remarks as he met with the ministers on the sidelines of the 45th session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports, which took place on Thursday at the premises of the Arab League’s General Secretariat in Cairo.

During the meeting, El-Sisi said the proposed union would serve as a mechanism to maximise regular interaction between Arab youth, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

This would enable youth to learn about shared features and differences between Arab countries’ cultures, unify them, help them become aware of their issues and concerns, and deepen relations among the Arab youth at the popular level, according to the president.

The president held an open dialogue with the ministers on the different Arab experiences regarding youth work. They discussed means of benefiting from these experiences to support dialogue between youth and secure a space for them to formulate visions concerning the challenges that they face.

The president stressed the importance of raising awareness among Arab youth regarding digital transformation, software and rapid technological progress, which greatly affect the future of job opportunities.

The youth sector is a fundamental dimension of the national security of countries, El-Sisi stressed

El-Sisi called for maximising the joint Arab capabilities to make good use of the huge positive energy that the youth represent.

The Arab ministers commended the importance Egypt attaches to the sports and youth fields, especially by adopting several interactive initiatives and holding national, regional and global events and conferences in this regard.

This reflects the pivotal role played by the youth in Egypt’s national development strategy, the ministers affirmed.
