The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced a plan for health measures that will be in place during the United Nations Climate Summit (COP27), which Egypt is hosting in Sharm El-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian state's keenness to provide medical coverage for major events and activities of the summit, covering citizens and the participating delegations from different countries.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the axes of the medical coverage plan at the Climate Summit include therapeutic services, preventive measures, ambulatory services, hospital services, information technology for health services, aiming to protect conference participants from infection with various infectious diseases.
The plan further includes the protection from exposure to crises and health accidents, provision of ambulance and emergency services in a timely manner, provision of necessary treatment services to conference guests, as well as provision of diagnostic tests and reservation of sick cases in hospitals.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that the ambulance services include allocating 170 vehicles equipped with intensive care units, distributed in the vicinity of the conference halls, and areas for delegations’ residence and movements, in addition to distributing ambulances on the main axes, vital areas, and entry points to South Sinai Governorate.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the emergency system in the conference insurance plan includes self-sterilizing cars to combat infection, rapid intervention cars, marine ambulance launch, golf cars, and electric ambulances, in addition to providing air evacuation service in necessary cases.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the axes of preventive measures to secure the conference include (vaccinations of workers, environmental health and food control work, quarantine, disease vector control work, mobile laboratory to monitor air quality, and work of preventive teams).
Abdel Ghaffar revealed that a field hospital has been equipped for the first time to provide medical coverage during the conference.
