Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met Wednesday on the sidelines of COP27 his Irish counterpart Simon Coveney, who commended the quality organization of COP27 by Egypt, and affirmed his country's commitment to increase its contributions to international climate action.
Coveney also asserted Ireland's commitment to coming to terms with other parties on ways to achieve climate goals, and carry out relevant joint work in adherence with clear measures and steps.
On his side, Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of consolidating confidence among different parties participating in the conference with the aim of reaching congruence on various topics.
The minister also noted that international partners should raise the amount of their financial contributions, which are essential to accomplish climate adaptation and mitigation.
The meeting further covered a number of regional and international issues, mainly the Russia-Ukraine War, the international polarization it has incurred, and its economic repercussions on developing nations.
They also conferred over the Palestinian Cause, whereas the minister stipulated Egypt's fixed stance on reviving the peace process at the foundation of the two-state solution and international resolutions.
The minister
had also met the Russian climate envoy and the Turkish deputy minister of
environment to discuss climate issues.
