Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat took part in the opening of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 (PP-22) in the Romanian capital Bucharest.
The event, which runs until October 14, is attended by ICT ministers, senior officials, and representatives of ITU member states.
Talaat held a meeting with Lee Jong-ho, South Korean Minister of Science, Communications and Information Technology, on the sidelines of the ITU PP.
The two officials discussed means to open new horizons for IT co-operation between Egypt and South Korea, including electronics design and building digital capabilities.
Talaat reviewed the most significant ICT developments, as well as the projects implemented in Egypt, which meet ITU global trends, in co-operation with member states for ICT development globally.
“We are keen to providing an attractive and incentivizing work environment for local and foreign investments,” Talaat said.
The minister affirmed strong commitment to boosting economic, investment and trade co-operation with South Korea, as well as localizing electronic industries and upgrading information technology and communications infrastructure
They also reviewed co-operation with South Korean Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) as part of the Digital Egypt Builders initiative.
Talaat discussed mechanisms for transferring knowledge and exchanging expertise in IT and communications development.
For his part, the South Korean minister of science, communications and information technology said that his country is interested in strengthening co-operation with Egypt in digital capacity building, research and electronics industry. Lee Jong-ho said he seeks to foster aspects of co-operation between the two countries during the coming period through encouraging the South Korea companies concerned in this regard.
