Sisi directs govt to prepare studies on water-saving crops

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to prepare integrated studies on the best types of water-saving crops, as part of the State's strategy to rationalize water consumption through applying modern irrigation systems, treating wastewater and relying on the cultivation in greenhouses.

The president's directives came during his meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam to follow up on the provision of water for land reclamation projects in the Toshka region, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

In this regard, President Sisi was briefed on the progress made in desert land reclamation projects nationwide, including the projects of Toshka, East Owainat, New Delta and Mostaqbal Misr, the spokesman added.

The president was also briefed on the water needs of those projects in light of Egypt's water share in the Nile, which is estimated at 55.5 billion cubic meters annually, the spokesman noted.
