President Abdel Fattah El Sisi
directed the government to prepare integrated studies on the best types of
water-saving crops, as part of the State's strategy to rationalize water consumption
through applying modern irrigation systems, treating wastewater and relying on
the cultivation in greenhouses.
The president's directives came during his meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam to follow up on the provision of water for land reclamation projects in the Toshka region, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
The president was also briefed on the water needs of those projects in light of Egypt's water share in the Nile, which is estimated at 55.5 billion cubic meters annually, the spokesman noted.
