The Cabinet’s media center denied reports on any increases in fares and ticket prices for public transport after the price rise of gasoline by 25 piasters per liter.
The center said in a statement on Saturday that it contacted the Local Development Ministry, which dismissed such reports.
Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi stressed that there was no increase in the fares and ticket prices for public transport, directing governors to coordinate with security directorates and respective officials of traffic and bus stations to intensify joint campaigns to check any manipulations and deal strictly with any violators.
The minister also underlined the need to put a sticker for each vehicle showing the route and the fares for commuters.
He urged citizens to contact the relevant authorities in case there are any violations or attempts to increase the fares.
Egypt's Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee has decided to increase the prices of gasoline by 25 piasters per liter.
Meanwhile, the committee kept the price of diesel fuel unchanged at EGP 6.75 per liter.
