Sisi calls for Arab unity in face of regional challenges

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi called for intensified Arab co-operation in the face of current challenges.

Addressing the 48th session of the Arab Labor Conference in Cairo, the Egyptian leader said the Arab region goes through political, economic and social challenges.

“This co-operation is necessary for Arabs to demonstrate the true mettle of their civilization, one that is capable of continuing to build the future and preserve the heritage of the past,” the president said in an address delivered on his behalf by Minister of Labor Hassan Shehata.

He added that this is about time the Arabs upheld their national interests and discarded their differences.

Those igniting these differences, he said, want to obliterate the Arab identity and tamper with the capabilities of Arab peoples.

The president called for making a real pause to evaluate current international changes and expedite Arab economic integration.

“We need to move towards unity,” the president said. He added that this unity would open the door for Arab progress.

The conference is organized by the Arab Labor Organization, an affiliate of the Arab League. It will continue until September 25, bringing together Arab labor ministers and the heads of Arab labor agencies and organizations.

The 48th session of the conference will discuss a wide range of important issues, such as the challenges facing the Arab labor market, along with a report by the director-general of the Arab Labor Organization.

Titled, ‘Digital Economy and Employment Issues’, the report contains recommendations for supporting development, economic growth, and job creation in the Arab region.
