Cairo Governorate holds workshop for traditional crafts

Under the patronage of Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, the Cairo governorate held a  workshop for traditional crafts at the Mazalla Association in El-Darb El-Ahmar area in cooperation with the Egyptian Association for Folk Traditions with the participation of handicraft artisans specialized in several Egyptian traditional crafts like wood carving, tent-making (Al-Khayameya), Arabesque, rosaries, glass, copper, wood, jewelry, and silver inlay. 

 

The workshop, attended by Adel Moussa, Specialist of Intangible Heritage Documentation, and Rania Salah, Chairman of the board of Trustees of the Foundation for Social and Cultural Development, discussed the problems facing traditional crafts art, how to preserve Egypt’s traditional crafts heritage, and ways to create a new generation of artisans.

 

The traditional handicrafts workshop is part of the Inventory of intangible culture of craftsmanship in Historic Cairo Project funded by UNESCO and the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
