Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed on Monday the importance of Ifta organizations in Muslim countries in promoting the “real understanding” of religion and correcting religious misconceptions, the Egyptian presidency said.
During a meeting with Islamic preachers and scholars from different Muslim countries at the 6th International Conference for Fatwa in Cairo, the Egyptian president underlined the important role Ifta organizations play as the legitimate source of fatwas.
The Egyptian president also pointed out the significant role played by Egypt’s Al-Azhar and Dar El-Ifta in Egyptian social life and their recent use of social media, highlighting that Dar El-Ifta issued 1 million fatwas online in 2020.
Organized by Egypt’s Dar El-Ifta, the 6th International Conference for Fatwa is being held on 2-3 August in Cairo under the auspices of President El-Sisi.
Delegates from 85 countries, including scholars, muftis, religious leaders, ministers and public figures, are participating in this year’s conference, titled ‘Fatwa Authorities in the Digital Age.’
