Egypt vaccinated up to 24 million citizens against coronavirus: Presidential adviser

Egypt has vaccinated between 23-24 million people against Covid-19 with no serious side effects from the vaccines recorded, a presidential adviser said on Tuesday.

No deaths from the vaccines were recorded and all the side effects disappeared after 48 hours, the president's adviser for health affairs Awad Tag El-Din said.

Egypt targets to vaccinate 40 million citizens by the end of the year, allocating around 1,100 vaccination centres nationwide.

Various types of imported vaccines are administered in Egypt: Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer, in addition to the locally-made Sinovac/VACSERA vaccine.

The presidential adviser Egypt was still in the fourth wave of the pandemic and sees an uptick in the number of infections, which are under control.

Egypt has recorded so far 325,508 cases of coronavirus, including 274,762 recovered cases and 18,333 fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in February 2020.
