Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed said that Egypt is due to receive 5.2 million doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines in September to support its current stock of vaccines in a bid to widen the inoculation campaigns nationwide.
At a press conference on Monday, Zayed said 10 million citizens have already registered to get jabbed at the ministry’s website, noting that 7.5 million of them have already been vaccinated.
She urged citizens to quickly register to get vaccinated after Egypt’s tally of infections increased over the past week.
The minister also noted that students willing to travel abroad will be vaccinated before they are approved to travel, adding that Thanawya Amma holders will also be included in the vaccination process by getting two doses ahead of the start of the new academic year.
Zayed also said that about 15 million doses of Sinovac have been produced so far, noting that about the first one million doses will be sent to medical centres on Tuesday.
She noted that one of western countries’ vaccines known of its 100 percent effectiveness will be manufactured in Egypt soon.
She underlined those vaccines reduce death and hospitalization rates by 90 percent.
She noted that the first wave was the easiest one, and the third one was more powerful, adding that coronavirus cases are expected to rise in the fourth wave.
