Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal inspected Sunday the ongoing development work of Historic Cairo as the state attaches great importance to restoring the area’s touristic position and significance.
During his tour, Abdel Aal assured that the state is making a great effort to revive Historic Cairo following the political leadership’s instructions to restore its vital role in representing the unique architectural features of the area and preserve its heritage.
Moreover, Abdel Aal said that the restoration work is a collaborative effort between the Cairo governorate, the Urban Development Fund, and the Engineering Authority and includes the area behind Al-Hakim Mosque, Om El-Ghulam Street, El-Mashad El-Husseiny Square, Bab Zewila, and El-Labana Alley.
Abdel Aal pointed out that there is a consultative team specialized in the area’s history assigned to handle the renovation of the facades of the buildings in good conditions in a way that fits the area’s unique architecture style.
As for the buildings in bad conditions, there will be coordination with the occupants to pay a temporary rental value and evacuate the buildings until the renovation work is completed.
During the tour, the governor was accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hady, Chief of Wast Al-Qahira district, and some of Cairo governorate’s executive officers.
