Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea said Tuesday the
Social Fund for Development cooperates with the various state bodies to
coordinate efforts to upgrade heritage projects and offer all possible support
to heritage handicrafts.
In a statement, the minister, who heads the fund, said the Egyptian heritage is
a window for exporting distinguished products, pointing out that President
Abdel Fattah El Sisi has given directives to promote this sector and settle all
problems facing it.
Egypt has around 250 heritage handicraft complexes that are home to some 120
handicrafts that provide jobs to thousands of people, the statement added.
If given a favorable atmosphere, handicrafts can make a quantum leap in the
economic and social lives of many people particularly women who are very
creative in terms of handicrafts as well as disabled persons who can
participate actively in production and improve their living conditions, the
statement said.
"Torathna" exhibition, organized by the fund, is one of the largest
exhibitions that serve the heritage handicrafts sector. It is held periodically
to allow as many entrepreneurs as possible to participate. It is also a
marketing window for everyone in this sector and others who can join in, the
statement added.
