Egypt’s New Kasr El-Ainy University Hospital, also known as
the French Kaser El-Ainy, has been fully turned into a makeshift isolation
hospital on the back of the recent rising reported rates of coronavirus cases
and deaths in nationwide.
According to a statement by Cairo University, to which the country's oldest educational facility is affiliated, the hospital will serve the university’s medical, teaching and administrative staff who will be diagnosed with the coronavirus starting Wednesday.
Mohamed Othman El-Khesht, the university president said that the decision was taken upon recommendations by health experts, given the "successful experience" of designating the hospital for the coronavirus isolated cases earlier this year.
Along with other hospitals, Kasr El-Ainy hospital was designated as an isolation hospital in April, only two months after the detection of the first COVID-19 infection domestically, to free up beds for critical cases at then overwhelmed state-run isolation hospitals.
