Egypt’s Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned on Saturday of
"extremely hot weather" nationwide this week.
The EMA said the heat wave will take place between Saturday and Tuesday and will peak on Monday, the authority added the heat wave "will be accompanied by high humidity" that will exacerbate heat in Cairo and Lower Egypt.
On Saturday morning temperatures registered 36 degrees Celsius in Cairo and Lower Egypt, 31 degrees in the northern coasts and between 38 and 41 in Upper Egypt.
Sunday's weather is expected to be hotter in the morning and moderate in the evenings in Cairo and the Nile Delta as temperatures will reach a maximum of 37 degrees in Cairo and Lower Egypt, 32 degrees in the northern coasts, and between 39 and 42 in Upper Egypt, according to the authority.
On Monday, temperatures are expected to rise by an average of 1-2 degrees nationwide.
Though the country is expected to see moderate winds during the four days, winds will be active on the Gulf of Suez, leading to the disturbance of maritime navigation in the region until Tuesday.
