Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir signed on Tuesday a
contract with the French Group RATP Group to operate the 3rd Cairo Metro line.
The signing ceremony was attended by the French Ambassador
to Cairo Ambassador Stephane Romatet, Head of the National Authority for
Tunnels (NAT) Essam Wali and RATP Group Chairman Laurence Battle attended the
signing ceremony.
For his part, Minister Wazir said the ministry has "an ambitious plan to
upgrade and develop one of the transportation means which is the urban
transportation," highlighting the progress in several projects currently
taking place in Cairo and Alexandria, such projects are carried out in
cooperation between international partners and national companies, he added.
The Minister said the agreement with the French side included that 90 percent
of the metro workers should be Egyptians as they will be trained by the French
side.
Wazir also voiced hope over further beefing up cooperation with the French
company in future.
