Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, emphasized the importance of including the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Control at the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA-CADC) on the World Health Organization’s list of prequalified quality control laboratories for medicines, describing it as a new international achievement added to Egypt’s record of successes in the fields of pharmaceuticals and public health. He noted that the achievement reflects the advanced level reached by Egypt’s system for monitoring the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products.
The Minister said that what the Egyptian Drug Authority has achieved is further evidence that Egypt is not only capable of providing medicines, but also has a regulatory system capable of ensuring their quality and safety in accordance with the highest international standards. He affirmed that this achievement is the result of the state’s investment in the Egyptian people and in building strong regulatory institutions that possess the scientific knowledge, expertise, and ability to apply global standards.
The Minister praised the efforts made by the Authority, its leadership, and the personnel of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Control, stressing that reaching this international level was achieved through institutional work and continuous investment in human resources, equipment, technology, and quality systems.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the international achievements made by Egyptian institutions in the health and pharmaceutical sectors confirm that developing the healthcare system is not limited to establishing hospitals or increasing the number of services, but also includes building strong national institutions capable of applying the best global practices and ensuring the highest levels of quality and safety for citizens.
He affirmed that the Ministry will continue to support the state’s efforts to develop the healthcare and pharmaceutical systems and enhance integration among the relevant national authorities, in a manner that ensures the sustainability of the quality of health services and products and reinforces Egypt’s position as a country with a system based on science, international standards, and national capabilities.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the achievement reflects international confidence in the efficiency of the laboratory and regulatory system and the ability of Egyptian personnel to comply with internationally recognized standards and practices for pharmaceutical quality control. He pointed out that the inclusion came after the laboratories underwent the assessment and inspection requirements adopted by the Organization and were confirmed to meet the technical standards for good practices for quality control laboratories.
He affirmed that the quality and safety of medicines constitute an essential part of the concept of health security for citizens, and that the state is working to develop all components of the pharmaceutical system in an integrated manner, from manufacturing, regulation, and analysis to ensuring the availability of safe and effective medicines. Abdel Ghaffar added that international recognition of the Authority’s laboratory capabilities is an important step in supporting the competitiveness of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry and enhancing international confidence in Egyptian pharmaceutical products. This opens broader prospects for expansion into regional and international markets and strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing, regulation, and quality.
It is worth noting that the World Health Organization included the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Control at the Egyptian Drug Authority on its list on September 4, 2026, following the fulfillment of the assessment and qualification requirements in accordance with the approved standards. The official spokesperson pointed out that the state attaches great importance to strengthening national capabilities in the fields of pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and development, laboratory control, and pharmacovigilance, as interconnected components of a modern pharmaceutical system capable of meeting the needs of the local market and competing globally.
