Cairo Governor Inspects Development Projects in Historic Cairo

Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, conducted an inspection tour of the areas of Al-Imam Al-Shafi‘i, Sayyida Aisha, and the Magra El-Eyoun Aqueduct, as part of the state’s plan to develop and revitalize Historic Cairo and restore the capital’s architectural character while preserving its religious, historical, and heritage identity. He was accompanied by Mr. Ashraf Mansour, Deputy Governor for the Southern District, along with several senior officials from the governorate.

Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, emphasized that the comprehensive development works currently underway in these areas are being carried out in accordance with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to maximize tourism and cultural attractions, eliminate random and informal features, develop historic areas, and preserve their identity.

The Governor of Cairo noted that the ongoing works are part of an integrated plan combining the preservation of archaeological sites and heritage elements with upgrading roads, utilities, and services, as well as improving the urban environment and overall appearance. These efforts aim to enhance the areas and prepare them to receive residents and visitors.

During the tour, the Governor inspected the development works in the Al-Imam Al-Shafi‘i area, as well as the restoration and maintenance of the façades and heritage elements of the Shahin King Mausoleum, carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the National Organization for Urban Harmony.

The Governor also inspected the Sayyida Aisha area to follow up on development, landscaping, sidewalk planting, and the creation of green spaces. He also reviewed the second phase of the restoration works and the construction of the tourist promenade along the Magra El-Eyoun Aqueduct.

During the tour, he followed up on the progress of the various works and received briefings from officials on the achievements and implementation stages. He stressed the importance of adhering to the established timelines, completing the works promptly, maintaining field follow-up, and ensuring coordination among all participating authorities to preserve the development works after completion.

The Governor of Cairo affirmed that the development projects at Al-Imam Al-Shafi‘i, Sayyida Aisha, and the Magra El-Eyoun Aqueduct aim to improve infrastructure, services, mobility, and the overall appearance of the areas, while preserving their historical and heritage value and maximizing tourism and cultural attractions. These efforts support the state’s initiatives to restore the capital’s urban character and preserve the identity of Historic Cairo for future generations.
