The Minister of Health and Population held a comprehensive meeting with a delegation from Philips International to explore avenues of cooperation and localizing the production of advanced medical devices in Egypt.
During the meeting, the minister pledged full logistical support and resources to fast-track the project. He also urged a rapid transition from assembly to full-scale manufacturing. He also stressed the need to ensure technology transfer at both hardware and software levels and to establish a research and development center once operations commence.
Moreover, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said that the meeting reviewed the executive steps for establishing Philips’ first factory outside the Netherlands, to be implemented in two phases: the first focusing on device assembly and the second on full-scale production of advanced CT scanners and high-capacity surgical imaging devices.
The discussions also touched on the company’s readiness to provide Egypt with the spectral CT scanner—the first of its kind to be installed in Africa and the Middle East. This device offers exceptional cellular-level imaging, making it the most advanced and precise tool for diagnosing vascular diseases and tumors.
Both sides further explored cooperation in establishing specialized stroke treatment units across Egypt. The project is currently under study in collaboration with the Dutch organization ‘Invest International,’ which will provide the necessary support to Egypt in implementing this initiative to upgrade its healthcare system.
