Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber inspected the ongoing construction of external water pipelines from the new Kafr Al‑Alo station in the Helwan and Tebbin neighborhoods. The project is executed by the Cairo Potable Water Company and extends over a total length of 27 km, with an approximate cost of LE 1.4 billion, as part of the state’s plan to upgrade infrastructure and improve public services.
During his tour, the governor was accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ashraf Mansour, Ismail Abdel Rabbo, Chairman of the Cairo Potable Water Company, and Eng. Adel Hassan, Chairman of the Cairo Sanitary Drainage Company, along with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate and senior officials from the Cairo governorate.
Governor Saber stated that the project, aimed at enhancing potable water services and boosting water pressure in several southern neighborhoods, has achieved over 70% progress. He added that the project is scheduled to be finished early next year. He further said that the new pipelines will serve the side streets off Omar Ibn Abdelaziz in Helwan, the Corniche Road and its extensions, the Helwan and Tebbin districts, the Qawmeya Llasmant Rd. and side streets, and the city of 15 May.
The pipelines’ total capacity from the new Kafr Al‑Alo station is about 400,000 m³/day, with diameters ranging between 600 mm and 1,800 mm. It will guarantee service sustainability, enhance water pressure, and address future needs. About 19 km of the project has already been completed, including a 1,200 mm pipeline along 5 km of the Corniche El-Nil extending towards Helwan. Moreover, the execution of the surface layer for the pipeline route is underway. Another 1,000 mm pipeline of 205 km extending towards Tebbin has been finished, as well as 205 km of a 1,000 mm pipeline along Omar Ibn Abdel Aziz Street in Helwan, with the execution of another 205 km of the same pipeline.
Furthermore, a total of 600 mm pipelines extending 5 km have been finished, along with part of the surface binding works along the 1,200 mm water pipeline track on the Corniche, covering an area of about 25,000 square meters, with the surface layer currently being finalized.
Saber also directed the accelerated execution of the project and the immediate restoration of roads and streets after finishing each pipeline segment. He also instructed on enhancing the project’s surroundings, improving road efficiency, repaving, upgrading public lighting, increasing green spaces, planting trees along roads, and upgrading sidewalks and curbstones to improve the visual landscape and enhance the quality of citizen services.
Moreover, Saber directed district chiefs and executing authorities to intensify field inspections and 24/7 efforts to deliver the project with the highest standards and on schedule. He also instructed officials to remove any encroachments or obstacles that may hinder progress or disrupt pedestrian flow.
Saber added that the governorate places infrastructure projects and the development of drinking water and sanitation networks among its top priorities, given their direct effect on improving quality of life and enhancing services for residents of the southern area.
