Cairo Governor announces schools ready for new academic year

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber announced that the governorate has finalized preparations to welcome approximately 2,578,588 students in the 2026/ 2027 academic year across all Cairo schools, having taken all necessary measures to achieve success in the educational process.

Governor Saber stated that no student is to be deprived of attending school due to delayed payment of fees. This comes in line with directives from the political leadership to guarantee that students unable to pay are not excluded from education. He added that the importance of treating students with respect, prohibiting any form of abuse within schools, and ensuring that any disciplinary issues are referred to parents rather than handled through punitive measures.

Saber also added that Cairo has 6,292 schools with a total of 72,307 classrooms, and highlighted that 20 new schools will enter service this year through new construction, expansions, vertical extensions, and partial replacements, adding 656 classrooms.

Saber further said there must be a coordination between the Education Directorate, district chiefs, the Cleaning Authority, and the Utilities Police to continue removing encroachments and street vendors, and to intensify cleaning around schools. He also stressed the role of school directors and administrators in maintaining cleanliness inside classrooms, removing posters and defacements from school walls, preserving paintwork, expanding green spaces, and planting trees inside and outside schools.

Further measures include ongoing classroom maintenance, ensuring proper lighting, securing electrical poles around schools, preventing exposed wires, maintaining student desks and window glass, repairing restrooms, and disinfecting rooftop water tanks to safeguard the health and comfort of students and teachers. He emphasized the importance of regularly reviewing safety standards and ensuring civil defense requirements are met.

Moreover, Saber instructed education directors to conduct daily on‑site inspections from the first day of the academic year until its end to monitor the smooth running of the educational process and address any issues immediately.
