Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, attended the opening ceremony of the “Women in Cairo” Conference and Exhibition, in the presence of Major General Omar El-Shafei, Deputy Governor for the Northern District; Eng. Mona El-Batrawy, Deputy Governor for the Eastern District; Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women; Dr. Eman Karim, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities; and Amira Ragab, Assistant Supervisor of the Preventive Programs Department at the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse.
The event included an exhibition showcasing products made by a number of women entrepreneurs and women with disabilities, as part of efforts to promote the economic empowerment of women.
The event also witnessed the launch of two new initiatives in Cairo Governorate: “My Family, My Strength,” launched by the Human Rights Unit of Cairo Governorate, emphasizing the importance of the family as the fundamental pillar for supporting and empowering persons with disabilities, enhancing their capabilities, and promoting their effective integration into society, in cooperation and coordination with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities; and “Tama’na” (Reassurance), launched by the Governorate’s Equal Opportunities Unit to raise awareness and strengthen community support, while promoting the concepts of assistance, protection, and empowerment, thereby contributing to a safer and more reassuring environment for women and families.
The Governor emphasized that organizing the “Women in Cairo” Conference and Exhibition is a celebration of the pivotal role of Egyptian women in building the family and society, as well as a reflection of the belief that empowering women is one of the most important pillars of genuine and sustainable development. He noted Cairo Governorate’s commitment to supporting initiatives and efforts aimed at enhancing women’s capabilities and opening new horizons and opportunities for them.
He pointed out that the exhibition demonstrates Egyptian women’s ability to innovate and produce and to transform their skills into economic opportunities through the handicrafts and products on display, which reflect the talents of Egyptian women and underscore their commitment to active participation in economic and community life.
The Governor of Cairo explained that the exhibition is being organized in cooperation with the National Council for Women, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), with the participation of several partners, including the Baheya Initiative and the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse. This reflects the importance of integrating the efforts of state institutions and civil society organizations in supporting women and families.
The Governor affirmed that Cairo Governorate will continue to provide support for every effort aimed at empowering women and enhancing their capabilities, stressing that investing in women is an investment in a more stable family, a more aware society, and a stronger future.
The Governor of Cairo expressed his thanks and appreciation to all entities and institutions participating in organizing the conference and exhibition, as well as to every Egyptian woman who contributes through her talent, work, and determination to building a better future for herself, her family, and her community. He also expressed his hope that such events would continue to highlight successful Egyptian women and their role in the development process.
