The celebration honored the journey of one of Egypt's leading press institutions, which has kept pace with the country's developments over the past half century.
Governor Saber said that the golden jubilee of October Magazine represents an important opportunity to recall the history of key milestones in Egyptian journalism. It also pays tribute to institutions that have contributed to documenting the nation's journey. He added that the magazine possesses a rich journalistic legacy closely associated with significant events in Egypt's modern history. In addition, it has played a vital role in conveying the profound transformations witnessed by the country over recent decades.
Saber further said that celebrating the magazine's distinguished career also commemorates the efforts of the successive generations of journalists, writers, and staff members who have contributed to shaping its journalistic legacy. They also helped sustain its prominent presence in the Egyptian media sector. He also urged continuing efforts to deliver professional journalism that reflects societal issues and strengthens awareness of national identity.
Saber extended his congratulations to the magazine's senior staff, editorial team, and staff on celebrating its 50th anniversary. He wished the magazine further progress and to continue its journalistic mission in a manner befitting its history and position while supporting the role of the press in serving both the nation and its citizens.
October Magazine was established by a decree issued by the late President Mohammad Anwar El-Sadat following the glorious October War victory to commemorate this historic event and preserve its national significance in the collective memory of Egyptians. The magazine was founded by the renowned writer Anis Mansour, who also served as editor-in-chief of its inaugural issue, published on 31 October 1976, coinciding with the third anniversary of the October War Victory. From there, the magazine began its 50-year journey during which it chronicled changes and developments in Egyptian life. It also documented major events and transformations while serving as a journalistic platform for addressing national, social, and cultural issues as part of the media's role in covering, documenting, and examining the effects of events on citizens's lives.
