Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a multilateral meeting with leaders from the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe, the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the heads of the WHO–Imperial College London Collaboration Center on Fatty Liver Diseases.
The meeting focused on mechanisms for implementing the first global resolution issued by the World Health Assembly on fatty liver diseases and on strengthening cooperation in training, scientific research, capacity building, and prevention. This took place within the framework of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar’s official visit to London.
The minister added that the adoption of this historic resolution represents a strategic shift in the international approach to liver diseases, emphasizing the urgent need to transition from political commitment to actual implementation through sustainable national programs that create a tangible impact on community health.
Moreover, Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of integrating fatty liver disease prevention into non-communicable disease strategies, linking it to programs addressing obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, while drawing on Egypt’s pioneering experience in comprehensive community screening.
Abdel Ghaffar concluded the meeting by reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to maintaining its active role in the global liver health agenda and strengthening international partnerships to develop more integrated and sustainable health responses. These efforts aim to enhance community well-being and address future health challenges.
