The Ministry of Health and Population organized the fifth professional workshop of the Viral Hepatitis Elimination Program from June 21 to 25, 2026, in cooperation with the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), with the participation of healthcare professionals, program managers, physicians, and policy advisors from several African countries.

The organization of the workshop comes within the framework of Egypt’s keenness to strengthen health cooperation with African countries and to transfer its successful expertise in combating viral hepatitis B and C.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, stated that Egypt’s hosting of this workshop represents an extension of its ongoing commitment to supporting African efforts to eliminate the disease by 2030 through the exchange of expertise and the capacity building of healthcare cadres.

He explained that the program focuses on transferring practical knowledge in the comprehensive management of Hepatitis C, hepatitis B control programs, and strategies to reduce infection and mortality rates, as well as strengthening governance, data management, and sustainable financing.

Mr. Serge Bacho, Head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Africa CDC, affirmed that the joint program with Egypt has become a pioneering model of cooperation among Global South countries, praising Egypt’s successful experience as one from which African countries can benefit and adapt to their national needs.

At the conclusion of the events, a shield of appreciation was presented to Ms. Sojin Jang, representative of KOICA, in recognition of the agency’s support in capacity building and in strengthening partnerships among Global South countries.
