Cairo Governor: 50 ambassadors to join Cairo’s National Day celebration

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber stated that more than 50 ambassadors and diplomatic envoys will join the Cairo Governorate tomorrow, Thursday, to celebrate the 1057th anniversary of Cairo’s National Day on Art Street in Downtown Cairo. He added that the celebration honors the comprehensive developmental and civilizational renaissance witnessed by the capital, as well as showcasing its cultural, historical, and touristic attractions.

Governor Saber stated that Cairo witnessed the largest number of development projects during the 12 years of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s leadership. The total number of projects reached 9,238, with a combined cost of 2.8 trillion Egyptian pounds. Of these, 7,788 projects cost 2,683.161 billion pounds, while 1,450 projects are currently under implementation, costing 116.290 billion pounds.

Moreover, Saber said the development achieved in Cairo over the past 12 years was driven by the wise vision of the political leadership, which contributed to the unprecedented transformation witnessed in the capital. He added that the city needs to build between 20 and 30 schools annually to accommodate over 2 million students. He added that 514 projects have been implemented, including the construction of new schools and the addition of classrooms, at a cost of 15.3 billion Egyptian pounds.

In the health sector, the capital carried out about 409 projects, including hospitals and health centers, costing a total of 9.4 billion Egyptian pounds. In infrastructure and urban renewal, 310 safe water pipeline projects were completed at a cost of 11.9 billion pounds, while 650 sewage pipeline projects were implemented for 23.4 billion pounds.

In the electricity sector, the total number of projects reached 227, with a cost of 56.8 billion Egyptian pounds. In the natural gas sector, Cairo has implemented 245 projects costing 70.1 billion pounds. Regarding youth and sports projects, the capital executed 158 projects at a cost of 13 billion pounds.

Additionally, Governor Saber stated that the governorate has experienced significant progress in the development of roads, transportation, and major road axes. Without these improvements, Cairo would have become a massive parking lot, with vehicle speeds dropping to nearly zero in several areas. Furthermore, the annual losses would have reached nearly 50 billion pounds, accompanied by increased fuel consumption, environmental pollution, wasted working hours, and diminished opportunities to attract investment.

Governor Saber further stated that the unprecedented developmental and urban projects undertaken by the governorate have had the greatest impact on the capital’s recent regional awards and rankings. He added that receiving the Best Arab Governor award at the Arab Government Excellence Awards is a tribute to all employees of Cairo Governorate and its partners in success, reflecting the immense effort invested in developing government services, upgrading infrastructure, and improving citizens’ quality of life. He emphasized that the award serves as a motivation to continue working and achieve further achievements.

Moreover, Saber stated that the success of the Asmarat Housing project in winning the award for Best Local Community Development Initiative at the Arab Government Excellence Awards affirms the success of the Egyptian experience in eliminating informal settlements and providing integrated urban communities. These communities offer citizens decent housing along with comprehensive educational, health, social, and recreational services. This achievement supports the goals of sustainable development and ensures a dignified life for all citizens.

Governor Saber added that the development projects have garnered international attention and acclaim, helping Cairo secure fourth place among the world’s 12 most beautiful cities for 2026, according to the global Civitatis ranking. This achievement reflects the comprehensive development seen in the capital’s historical, touristic, and heritage areas, while preserving its unique identity that blends Pharaonic, Islamic, and Coptic heritage. The improvements also include the upgrading of squares, main roads, gardens, and outdoor areas, enabling Cairo to surpass several major world cities.

Saber also stated that the capital’s top ranking in the 2025 classification of Africa’s most attractive cities for investment, published by the French magazine Jeune Afrique, confirms the success of the government’s efforts to improve the investment climate, develop infrastructure, and enhance the efficiency of facilities and services. This achievement contributes to attracting more local and foreign investments and supports the path toward economic development.
