Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, has issued a set of urgent and strict directives to ministry leaders, heads of sectors, affiliated authorities, and directorates to immediately implement the presidential directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters. The directives call for the preparation of an urgent national program to reduce living costs and regulate supply chains, in full coordination with the Mostaqbal Misr Agency for Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
The minister instructed the General Authority for Agrarian Reform, the Agricultural Research Center, and agricultural directorates across all governorates to conduct an immediate and comprehensive inventory of all unused ministry-owned assets, land, and buildings that could be converted into retail outlets or modern markets. He also ordered the immediate rehabilitation and upgrading of these facilities to maximize their use in supporting Egypt's food security system, in cooperation with the Mostaqbal Misr Agency.
Farouk further directed all production sectors within the ministry—including the Production Sector, research stations, the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector, the General Authority for Agrarian Reform, and agricultural cooperatives—to immediately expand their activities and increase production capacity for crops, meat, poultry, and dairy products. The objective is to boost domestic supply and support national efforts to stabilize the prices of essential commodities.
The minister also instructed officials to increase the quantities of food and agricultural products supplied through both fixed and mobile retail outlets, while strengthening oversight to ensure that products move directly from farms and production facilities to consumers without intermediaries. In addition, the Sector for Directorates and Cooperative Affairs was tasked with monitoring implementation around the clock to ensure these measures are carried out effectively.
