Sports and Youth Minister Gohar Nabil and Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber met at the Cairo Governorate's headquarters to discuss cooperation on several matters of mutual interest. The meeting was also attended by deputy governors Ashraf Mansour, Eng. Mona El-Batrawi, Dr. Ahmad Anwar Atia, and Omar El-Shafaei, along with several officials from both the governorate and the ministry.
The meeting addressed several files of mutual interest, foremost among them the project to establish public sports arenas to provide youth with spaces to host and practice activities. The meeting also reviewed updates concerning several clubs and youth centers in Cairo, including Cairo Sports Club, Abdeen Club in Katameya, Ain Al-Sira Youth Center, Sharq Helwan El-Gadidah Youth Center, Sayeda Zeinab Youth Center, and Bab Al-Shaareya Youth Center.
The minister of youth and sports thanked the Cairo governor for holding the meeting at this historic place, saying it makes one feel pride and admiration for Egypt's rich heritage.
Minister Nabil added that Cairo is one of the most important governorates for the ministry due to its large population, which prompted the launch of the public sports arenas project there. He also said that the project's purpose is to provide opportunities for all citizens to engage in sports, in accordance with directives from the political leadership.
Minister Nabil added that the ministry is cooperating with all government entities and collaborating with governors to improve services, develop youth and sports projects, and encourage everyone to engage in sports.
Moreover, Minister Nabil stated that the upcoming phase will see numerous sports programs tailored to meet the aspirations and needs of young people. He added that the ministry will make use of every available plot of land, developing youth and sports projects on all open land to maximize benefits for Egypt's youth.
The minister concluded by saying the ministry is working relentlessly to upgrade youth centers and affiliated clubs throughout the governorates, following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives toward human development and identifying and supporting talented individuals.
Meanwhile, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber stated during the meeting that the Egyptian state, under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, places the youth and sports sectors at the forefront, given they are vital tools for building the Egyptian citizen and shaping generations capable of creativity, innovation, and competition in various fields.
Governor Saber further commended the significant efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in implementing a comprehensive strategy to discover, nurture, and refine talents, as well as to create a suitable environment for their development. This strategy aims to prepare champions capable of representing Egypt honorably in regional and international forums.
Saber also emphasized the Cairo Governorate's support for all projects and initiatives adopted by the ministry, particularly the establishment of public sports arenas throughout Cairo's districts. These arenas aim to enable young people—especially those who cannot afford club memberships—to participate in sports. He stressed that these facilities will provide opportunities to discover and nurture many talents.
The concept of the public sports arenas project revolves around creating fenced spaces, free of charge, for youth to practice football and basketball. These arenas will include light facilities and will be funded by a number of sponsors.
