The Ministry of Health and Population announced that more than four million expectant mothers nationwide have received comprehensive, free medical examinations under the Presidential Initiative for Maternal and Fetal Health. This initiative was launched in March 2020 under the slogan "100 Million Health."
The official spokesperson for the ministry, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, stated that the initiative focuses on the early detection of diseases transmitted from mother to fetus, providing immediate treatment and comprehensive free healthcare. It also includes screening pregnant women for hepatitis B, HIV, and syphilis to ensure safe deliveries and healthy newborns.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fawzi Fathi, the executive director of the initiative, said that follow-up care continues for both mother and child for 42 days after birth to monitor any risk factors and take immediate action. This care also includes providing nutritional supplements and micronutrients during the postpartum period.
The services include a thorough check-up; measuring height, weight, and blood pressure; a tetanus shot; blood and urine tests to check for anemia, infections, and contagious diseases; evaluating if the mother needs an anti-D injection after giving birth; and giving essential nutrients and vitamins for free during pregnancy and after childbirth.
The Ministry also stated that it continues to respond to inquiries through hotlines 105 and 15335, as well as via its official website and social media pages.
