Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting on Sunday at the Ministry's headquarters in Kasr Al Ainy to discuss a draft decision outlining the requirements for renewing medical practice licenses for physicians.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hussein Khaled, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Medical Liability and Patient Safety; Dr. Sherif Pasha, Chairman of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives; Major General Dr. Hisham El-Sheshtawy, Chairman of the Health Committee in the Senate; Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate; Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, President of the Egyptian Health Council; Dr. Sherif Wadie, Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Review of Clinical Research Ethics and a member of the Senate; Dr. Hisham Zaki, Head of the Central Administration for Non-Governmental Healthcare Institutions and Licensing; and Mohamed El-Menshawy, the Minister's Legal Advisor.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry's official spokesperson, said the meeting discussed the proposed regulations and standards for renewing medical licenses every five years, with the aim of ensuring physicians' continuous professional development.
The proposed requirements include participation in continuing medical education (CME) and training programs, adherence to professional medical ethics, and compliance with medical malpractice insurance requirements in accordance with the applicable laws.
Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that this step is intended to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens and strengthen Egypt's healthcare system by enhancing physicians' professional performance.
