Al-Azhar Mosque is launching “Al Qare’ Al Faqeeh” competition, which aims to discover and support outstanding individuals in memorizing the Holy Qur’an and studying Shafi’i jurisprudence. The competition is part of Al-Azhar’s efforts to strengthen the study of Qur’anic sciences and Islamic jurisprudence, in implementation of the directives of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and with the approval of Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani, Deputy of Al-Azhar.
Al-Azhar Mosque stated that applications for the competition will be opened electronically through the Al-Azhar electronic portal, with details also announced through the official Al-Azhar Mosque page on Facebook. Registration will remain open for 10 days, with applications accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, up to a maximum of 500 contestants.
The competition requires applicants to be between 10 and 35 years old, allowing children and young people the opportunity to participate in an academic competition that combines mastery of the Holy Qur’an with understanding of Islamic legal sciences.
The competition consists of two stages. It begins with a written test held at Al-Azhar Mosque on “Matn Al-Zubad” in Shafi’i jurisprudence, followed by an oral test for contestants who pass the first stage. The oral test covers the entire Holy Qur’an as well as Matn Al-Zubad in Shafi’i jurisprudence, reflecting the competition’s goal of preparing a generation that combines beautiful recitation, strong memorization, and awareness of Islamic legal rulings.
Al-Azhar Mosque confirmed that “Al Qare’ Al Faqeeh” competition is part of its educational and religious mission to prepare scholars who combine knowledge of the Qur’an and Islamic jurisprudence, while promoting the balanced Al-Azhar approach. The initiative aims to help graduate generations equipped with the ability to correctly understand religious texts and combine knowledge with practice.
