In the early hours of this Saturday, Cairo International Airport is launching a trial run of the first phase of its new automated system for issuing visas upon arrival across all arrival terminals. This precedes the system's official implementation on August 1st, following the completion of its installation and the commencement of operational testing.
The new system aims to simplify and expedite visa issuance procedures while reducing waiting times and congestion in arrival halls. This contributes to a smoother, more efficient, and user-friendly arrival experience for visitors, aligning with state efforts to enhance traveler services and advance digital transformation at air entry points.
Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, emphasized that the launch of this system aligns with the state’s vision to comprehensively enhance the tourist experience—from arrival in Egypt to departure. He noted that streamlining entry procedures is a key pillar in improving the quality of services provided to visitors and boosting the competitiveness of Egypt as a tourism destination.
The Minister explained that the pilot phase will allow for the assessment of the system’s efficiency and real-world effectiveness, paving the way for its rollout across all airports and points of entry into Egypt. This initiative aligns with the state’s digital transformation agenda and reflects its commitment to providing a faster, more seamless travel experience in accordance with global best practices.
The new system offers three ways to obtain the entry visa QR code—which replaces the currently used paper sticker—giving travelers greater flexibility in choosing the method that suits them best. These options include a mobile app accessible from anywhere in the world, self-service kiosks at Cairo International Airport, and the official online portal dedicated to visa issuance.
The QR code remains valid for seven days from its date and time of issuance, allowing tourists to obtain the visa prior to their arrival in Egypt. Additionally, the system offers a feature for accredited tourism companies to issue QR codes for tour groups, thereby facilitating the reception of delegations and expediting entry procedures at airports.
