Cultural Palaces hold events marking International Day of Older Persons

The General Authority for Cultural Palaces, headed by artist Hisham Atwa, held a series of cultural and artistic events at the Al-Safa Elderly Home. The events are part of the Culture Ministry’s program, marking the International Day of Older Persons.

The events were attended by several children from the Tahrir Association Orphan Home and featured a lecture entitled "Investing Time," delivered by Sheikh Mohammad Emara, a scholar of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.

The lecture discussed the young adulthood stage and physiological and psychological changes accompanying it. It also addressed how to make use of leisure time through productive hobbies or learning a craft.

The lecture was followed by a discussion led by Sara Bayoumi, in which attendees shared their life experiences and offered pieces of advice and lessons that younger generations can learn from.

As part of the artistic activities, a workshop was organized on decorating ceramic vessels using the decoupage technique under the supervision of Dr. Eman Nawar. Another workshop was organized on creating botanical forms using colored paper, led by Dr. Reham El-Anany.

The activities were organized as part of the “Beautiful Art Bus” initiative and the General Department of Children's Culture, affiliated with the Central Department for Studies and Research.

Another interactive workshop under the title "The Train of Life," led by artist Ghada Abdel Nabi, was held, concluding the events. During this workshop, participants shared memories from various stages of their lives. Another workshop focused on designing artworks on nature, which the children presented as commemorative gifts to the home's residents.

The world celebrates the International Day of Older Persons annually on October 1. The International Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990. The celebration aims to raise awareness of issues affecting older persons and their health and psychological needs while promoting their rights to care, social inclusion, and a dignified quality of life.
