World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
The United Nations General Assembly declared June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, on December 19, 2011. This day is considered the annual opportunity for the world to raise its voice in opposition to the abuse and exposure of some of our older generations to suffering.
The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The organization aims to provide an opportunity for communities worldwide to promote a better understanding of the psychological harm caused by elder abuse and neglect by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes that influence elder abuse.
2026 theme of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is "Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work", It will be marked by an event held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, alongside a major international meeting on the rights of persons with disabilities.
