Egypt has launched a new electronic portal and
automated system for environmental verification, authentication and specialized
conformity assessment services at the General Organization for Export and
Import Control (GOEIC).
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader
drive to simplify procedures, improve the investment climate and enhance the
efficiency of services offered to investors, exporters and importers, Minister
of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Salah said on Sunday.
The move comes in response to directives from
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to accelerate digital transformation and modernize
state services.
The platform was developed through joint co-operation
between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of
Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with Microsoft and
implemented by Interact Technology Solutions.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashim and GOEIC Chairman
Essam El-Naggar attended the launch event.
The minister said the project aims to facilitate trade
flows, reduce processing times and strengthen co-ordination among state bodies,
with a positive impact on Egypt’s competitiveness and export growth targets.
He described the system as an important institutional
step in upgrading the infrastructure supporting foreign trade, by offering
environmental verification, authentication and conformity assessment services.
He added that global trade is undergoing rapid changes
driven by sustainability requirements, the green economy, emissions reduction
efforts and stricter environmental and technical standards, making the modernization
of compliance services essential to help Egyptian companies meet emerging
international requirements.
The new platform provides a structured digital pathway
for submitting applications and tracking procedures related to the
Environmental Verification and Authentication Unit.
For his part, the GOEIC chairman said the launch marks
a qualitative leap in the authority’s services in environmental verification,
authentication and conformity assessment.
