Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Tuesday
with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh
El-Hefny. The President also held a separate meeting with Minister El-Hefny,
Major General Walid Aref, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Major
General Khaled Abdullah, Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority,
and Sohair Abdullah Chairperson of EgyptAir Ground Services.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency stated
that the meetings addressed the Ministry of Civil Aviation's efforts to develop
Egyptian airports and enhance their operational systems in accordance with the
latest international standards and regulations.
The discussion reviewed the progress of the Terminal 4
project at Cairo International Airport, which aims to increase capacity for
both passenger and aircraft traffic. The meetings also included a follow-up on
projects to upgrade Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria, and El Alamein airports, as well
as the construction of a new passenger terminal at the New Capital
International Airport and the establishment of St. Catherine and El Arish
International Airports.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official
spokesperson, indicated that the meetings also reviewed the latest developments
regarding the privatization of Egyptian airports and efforts to attract more
local and foreign investment to this promising sector.
Additionally, the meetings followed up on the
operations of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation and the
performance of EgyptAir Holding Company during the 2024/2025 fiscal year.
The President also addressed efforts to implement
digital transformation, particularly at Cairo International Airport. These
initiatives, undertaken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Civil Aviation
Authority, and affiliated companies, aim to improve internal operational
efficiency and enhance public services. This will contribute to streamlining
procedures and providing advanced digital services. Ongoing coordination with
the Ministry of Interior to activate electronic passport gates is expected to
facilitate travel, improve the passenger experience, and eliminate the use of
paper arrival/departure cards.
The spokesperson added that the meeting discussed the
status of EgyptAir's fleet and the impact of the ongoing regional conflict on
Egyptian airlines, including flight cancellations and general air traffic
trends in Egypt.
The meeting addressed steps taken to enhance the
efficiency of EgyptAir Ground Services, in line with the President's directives
to improve service levels. Development work at the transit hotel in Terminal 3
at Cairo International Airport was also reviewed.
The official spokesperson added that the President
emphasized that the development of the national carrier, EgyptAir, remains a
top priority.
He stressed the need to implement a comprehensive
vision aimed at expanding the aircraft fleet, improving operational efficiency,
and raising service quality while adhering to environmental standards,
increasing profitability, and modernizing operational systems.
