Prime
Minister Mustafa Madbouli reviewed a detailed report on the executive status of
the presidential initiative aimed at eliminating waiting lists for surgical
operations during the period from December 27, 2025 to January 27, 2026.
The report comes
within the framework of directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to
continue improving healthcare services and expanding the implementation of
presidential health initiatives, including the program to end surgical waiting
lists.
The president had
directed the allocation of LE3 billion to accelerate the clearance of waiting
lists for critical and urgent cases, easing patients’ suffering as part of the
new social protection package.
The initiative seeks
to prevent the accumulation of waiting lists for surgeries across several
medical specialties and interventions. Since its launch, more than three
million patients have benefited through services provided by hospitals
affiliated with the Health Ministry, Higher Education Ministry, Armed Forces,
police, civil society organizations, private hospitals and facilities of the
General Authority for Healthcare.
According to the
report, about 43,000 patients underwent surgical interventions during the
period from December 27, 2025 to January 27, 2026.
These included
procedures in ophthalmology, cardiac catheterization, open-heart surgery,
orthopedics, neurosurgery, oncology, cochlear implants, liver and kidney
transplants, as well as peripheral and cerebral catheterizations.
The report also
indicated that 3,262 cases were shifted to medication-based treatment during
the same period, while 5,443 patients received surgical procedures through the
General Organization for Health Insurance.
In addition, some
86,609 patients received medication despite not being covered by health
insurance until January 27, 2026, while 41,126 cases remain on waiting lists,
including those registered under the Health Insurance system.
