Ahmed
Badawy, head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the
Egyptian House of Representatives, announced upcoming meetings with the heads
of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Telecom
Egypt to address inquiries regarding internet usage and packages.
According to media
reports, Badawy said the meetings will focus on internet packages, with both
entities providing detailed briefings in response to public inquiries. He added
that the outcomes will be announced directly to the public.
He noted that the
meetings will also review plans to develop infrastructure and improve internet
services in Egypt.
Badawy emphasized
that internet access has become an essential service for citizens across
various sectors, including education, healthcare, and transportation.
Internet services in
Egypt have recently faced growing public scrutiny amid complaints about the
rapid depletion of data packages.
In April 2025,
active mobile subscriptions in Egypt reached 116.2 million, up from 109 million
a year earlier, marking a 6.57 percent increase, according to figures from the
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
