A high-level Indian delegation, led by Raja Bhanu,
Director General of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India
(Pharmexcil), and accompanied by Shri Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to
Egypt, held meetings on Sunday with key stakeholders in Egypt’s rapidly
expanding pharmaceutical sector, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral
cooperation and trade.
The visit aims to deepen collaboration between India
and Egypt and explore new opportunities for joint ventures, technology
transfer, and capacity-building across the healthcare and pharmaceutical
industries.
The delegation includes senior representatives from
India’s pharmaceutical industry and is focused on opportunities in generics, biosimilars,
and vaccines—areas in which India has established global leadership. Egypt’s
pharmaceutical market, projected to grow from $5.1bn in 2024-25 to $5.7bn in
2025-26, presents significant potential for strategic partnerships and
investment.
Ambassador Reddy highlighted the growing momentum in
India-Egypt pharmaceutical relations, stating: “India has long been a trusted
partner in the global pharmaceutical industry, and Egypt’s dynamic healthcare
sector offers an ideal platform for deeper collaboration. The Embassy remains
committed to facilitating partnerships that benefit not only our two countries,
but also the wider MENA region.”
Raja Bhanu underscored India’s role in supporting
Egypt’s healthcare ambitions, noting: “India’s pharmaceutical industry is known
for delivering high-quality, affordable medicines. As Egypt expands healthcare
coverage and strengthens local manufacturing capacity, Indian companies are
well positioned to collaborate with Egyptian counterparts, helping to improve
access to essential medicines for all.”
The cooperation will focus on several priority areas,
including generic medicines, clinical research, biotechnology, and vaccine
production. Both countries are exploring joint ventures in pharmaceutical
manufacturing and research and development, with the aim of positioning Egypt
as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and trade.
The visit also marks the launch of new initiatives
designed to stimulate investment, promote knowledge exchange, and drive
innovation in the healthcare sector. Pharmexcil and the Indian Embassy will
continue to work closely to support India-Egypt partnerships, leveraging shared
expertise and mutual opportunities to strengthen the pharmaceutical industries
of both nations.
