Egypt ranked first in Africa in the 2025 Government AI
Readiness Index issued by Oxford Insights, climbing 14 places globally to rank
51st worldwide among 195 countries, the Ministry of Communications and
Information Technology said on Saturday.
Egypt scored 57.5 points in the 2025 index, up from
55.6 points in 2024, when it ranked 65th globally among 188 countries.
The country also advanced to third place regionally in
the Arab world, compared with seventh place last year.
According to the ministry’s statement, Egypt topped
the Policy Capacity pillar globally, achieving a perfect score of 100 points,
tied with the United Kingdom, Serbia, and Australia.
The pillar assesses governments’ ability to design and
implement effective artificial intelligence policies aligned with a clear
national vision, as well as the availability of resources and participation in
relevant international agreements.
Egypt also ranked first in the Arab world in the
Resilience pillar, which measures a country’s capacity to manage the social,
economic, and environmental challenges arising from the expansion of AI
applications.
This includes preparedness to address potential risks
to societal security associated with the increased use of artificial
intelligence technologies.
Commenting on the results, Minister of Communications
and Information Technology Amr Talaat said the progress reflects the success of
Egypt’s efforts to harness artificial intelligence technologies in service of
society.
The milestone also highlights Egypt’s commitment to
strengthening partnerships with international institutions and global
technology companies in this field.
