Egyptian
Minister of Labor Mohammad Gobran affirmed that the Egyptian state is moving
forward with steady steps toward building a modern and balanced labor market
that achieves sustainable development and keeps pace with global changes, under
the wise leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
This came during
Egypt’s address, which was delivered at the opening session of the third
edition of the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC), held in Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia, from January 26 to 27, 2026, with the participation of a number of
ministers and more than 200 speakers from around the world, under the patronage
of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The minister
explained that the conference is being held at a critical time, as the world is
witnessing rapid transformations in labor markets due to accelerated
technological development, demographic changes, and global economic challenges,
which necessitate strengthening international cooperation and exchanging
expertise to formulate more flexible and sustainable labor policies.
He noted that the
issuance of the new Labor Law no. 14 of 2025 represents a historic step toward
modernizing Egypt’s labor system, achieving a balance between the rights of
workers and employers, and adhering to international labor standards, thereby
helping to create an investment-attractive work environment that supports
economic growth.
He stressed the
Egyptian state’s commitment to the principles of social protection and
non-discrimination, supporting women’s participation and ensuring their
sustained presence and advancement in the labor market, in addition to focusing
on the economic empowerment of youth, linking education and vocational training
to labor market needs, expanding technical and digital training programs, and
strengthening partnerships with the private sector.
GLMC features the
participation of 40 ministers from various countries to discuss solutions and
policies related to labor market issues at both the regional and international
levels.
The conference
program includes six main themes addressing the impact of technological
transformations and artificial intelligence on the workforce, the new skills
required to keep pace with labor market changes, issues facing workers in the
informal economy, workforce flexibility, and aligning labor markets with the
pace of continuous advancement.
Held under the
slogan “Shaping the Future,” the conference brings together a distinguished
group of decision-makers, business leaders, labor market experts, and
representatives of international organizations, with the aim of contributing to
shaping the future of work, providing a platform for dialogue and cooperation,
and developing forward-looking solutions to the most prominent challenges
facing global labor markets.
