17 January 2026
Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbini and Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber held a meeting at the Fustat Hills Park project’s site in the Misr Al-Qadima neighborhood of Cairo to follow up on the project's progress. The meeting took place at the beginning of the tour and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, Cairo Governorate, and the executing companies.
At the outset of the meeting, Minister El-Sherbini praised the fruitful cooperation with Governor Saber on the joint initiatives between the ministry and the governorate. Minister El-Sherbini also highlighted the governor's consistent commitment to supporting the Fustat Hills Park project. Moreover, he expressed his gratitude for the governor's full support of all ongoing development projects in Cairo. He added that today's tour was intended to review the current status of the remaining final steps of the project and to resolve any issues to ensure their completion.
For his part, Governor Saber commended the Ministry of Housing for its efforts in implementing the state's directives to create a new green space in Cairo, covering more than 500 acres. He noted that citizens eagerly anticipate its official opening as a new recreational area.
During the meeting, the status of the remaining final tasks in the project was reviewed. The minister directed periodic follow-up visits and ordered that all issues be resolved, with daily monitoring of achievement rates.
Following the meeting, Minister El-Sherbini and Governor Saber conducted an inspection tour of the Fustat Hills Park project. During the tour, they reviewed the progress in the Hills area, as well as the work in the Heritage and river zones. The project encompasses both the Hills and Valley zones. The Hills area is divided into three hills of varying heights, with a waterway (river) flowing between them, cascading down a series of terraces from the riverbank to the hilltop. This design allows the hilltop to overlook the entire project and its surroundings.
The project includes Al-Qasaba Hill, which covers an area of 13,000 square meters and features a tourist hotel, service buildings, parking spaces, and an artificial lake. It also includes bleachers and seating areas overlooking the waterfall, a pedestrian bridge for connectivity, a cafeteria, and a waterfall. It also includes Al-Hafa’er Hill to develop the area into an integrated archaeological, tourist, and cultural destination by uncovering the remains of the ancient city of Fustat across approximately 47 acres. The plan aims to restore the architectural composition of the ancient city, including the construction of a 1-kilometer-long walkway elevated 1.5 meters above the excavation site. This walkway will connect the tourist service buildings to the general site, enhancing the heritage area's appeal as a distinctive tourist destination. Heritage Gardens Hill will feature bleachers, visitor buildings, and restaurants overlooking a lake.
Furthermore, Minister El-Sherbini and Governor Saber reviewed the progress of the executive status in the markets area, which encompasses a commercial zone of 60,000 m². This project aims to stimulate tourism, support the national economy, and revitalize traditional crafts and heritage, particularly glasswork, ceramics, wax art, spinning, and weaving. The markets area is being developed in three phases and includes 19 shops, parking facilities, an artificial lake, green spaces, and a 3-star hotel.
Minister El-Sherbini also directed that efforts be intensified, particularly in coordinating the site and green spaces according to the established timetable, stressing the importance of adhering to the project schedule.
It is worth mentioning that the Fustat Hills Park project is located in the Misr Al-Qadima neighborhood, covering an area of approximately 500 acres. The project is being implemented by the Executive Authority for Greater Cairo Reconstruction Projects, affiliated with the Ministry of Housing. Situated in a central location in the heart of historic Cairo, it is considered one of the largest parks of its kind in the Middle East.
