Head of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector
Osama Talaat said that restoration and development work is underway in the
Mohammad Ali Mosque, located inside the Salah al-Din Citadel. Talaat explained that all work inside the mosque is
scheduled to be completed within a month.
Furthermore, Talaat stated that the restoration work inside
the Mohammad Ali Mosque is carried out solely by the Egyptian Ministry of
Tourism and Antiquities, using the latest scientific methods.
The works included cleaning and restoring the domes,
removing soot, clearing and cleaning the cabinets and the marble floor in the
courtyard, restoring and re-gilding the inscription tapes at the entrance to
the prayer house, in addition to fixing the marble ablution bases for the
fountain.
The works also comprised the restoration, cleaning,
polishing and re-installation of the chandelier in the middle of the prayer
house and attaching some of the missing parts that were damaged due to time
factors.
The clock on top of the clock tower was also fixed by
Egyptian expertise after years of not working.
